1:00 pm in Damascus, VA (Registration begins at noon)
This is a FREE & timed fun run by the State of Franklin Track Club.
This is a 17 mile run from Damascus, VA to Whitetop, VA on the beautiful Virginia Creeper Trail. There will be trophies for the 1st overall male and 1st overall female. Custom made wooden Christmas ornaments/fridge magnets will be given to a least the first 20 finishers. These really cool finisher awards were designed and made by Trailhead Designs in Damascus. There will also be door prizes donated by The State of Franklin Track Club and other very generous businesses. Participants will be required to sign a waiver and wear a bib to be timed and counted for any award or prizes. Timing will end at 5:15PM (15 Min. Pace)
The start of the run will be at mile marker #16 just in front of Creeper Trail Cottages and just behind Sundog Outfitters. Please park at the Damascus town pool and walk just across the trestle to the start. There is a bathroom available in the gazebo generously provided by Creeper Trail Cottages. Water and Gatorade will be available at Straight Branch (mile 4), Green Cove (mile 14), and the Whitetop Station finish (mile 17). Additional water stops may be added if enough volunteers are available. Snacks available at the finish. Remember this is a point to point run, so bring a friend to drive your car and pick you up at the finish. We will do our best to provide transportation back to Damascus for those in need, but it will be limited.
This run is part of the State of Franklin Track Club Trail Series and Long Distance Series competitions. Come out and join your fellow runners on this beautiful trail along Whitetop Laurel Creek and finish at Whitetop Station which is near the top of the second highest peak in VA. Please remember there will be no medical support and even though there is only one hill, it is challenging! The trail is only about a 1% – 3% grade with approximately a 1600 foot elevation gain over the 17 miles. Dress appropriately as temperatures and the weather this time of the year vary dramatically.
